The fountain centre
The
fountain centre is situated within the St Luke’s Cancer centre at the Royal
Surrey county hospital, (click here to see picture). The centre opened in September 1998 and is staffed by
medical and social services professionals, as well as trained complementary therapists and volunteers. It is a drop in centre that is available to all
patients receiving treatment at the
St Luke’s Cancer centre and it's satellite centres, free of charge.
Since it opened in September 1998 it
has become extremely popular with both patients and their relatives and
currently sees over 450 new patients each
month. It caters for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of
patients and their families including help for children whose parents had been
affected by cancer.
There
is an extensive library offering information on many aspects of cancer, its
treatment as well as information on a wide variety non conventional and
complementary therapies.
The fountain centre also provides a
telephone help line which
can be accessed by patients and their relatives. The centre also has a website (http://www.fountaincancersupport.org)
and patients and their relatives can access the information and support services
offered by the centre on the Internet. In
addition the centre networks closely with
the national and local cancer support groups and therapists.
The
centre also offers a wide range of complementary therapies aimed at promoting a
positive attitude as well as the relaxation and symptom control for
patients having anti cancer treatment at the Saint Luke’s Cancer centre.
